About William Wood
    William C. Wood, Ph.D., is currently Professor of Economics and Director of the Center for Economic Education at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Dr. Wood received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Virginia in 1980 and has held faculty positions at Vanderbilt University, the University of Virginia and Bridgewater College.

Dr. Wood is the author of two scholarly books in economics and more than 20 papers in refereed journals. His work has appeared in outlets as diverse as the Journal of Risk and Insurance, the Journal of Communication and the Wall Street Journal.

Past teaching assignments for Dr. Wood include micro- and macroeconomics, econometrics, industrial organization, finance and investments. Past honors include:

  • Recipient, the Omicron Delta Epsilon award for teaching excellence at the University of Virginia
  • Recipient, the Clifford D. Spangler award for research excellence from the American Risk and Insurance Association
  • National winner, Entrepreneurship and Public Policy competition sponsored by the National Federation of Independent Business and the Association of Private Enterprise Education
  • Madison Scholar (for research achievement), James Madison University
  • Distinguished Teacher 2001-2002, James Madison University College of Business
  • Winner, Distinguished Teacher Award, Southern Economic Association, 2002-2003
